In classrooms across Decatur County, technology is helping students experience learning in ways that go beyond the textbook. One standout example: primary students using virtual reality (VR) headsets to explore the world from a worm’s perspective after reading Diary of a Worm by Doreen Cronin.
Using ClassVR headsets, students were able to step into a digital scene where they could imagine life at ground level. Crawling through blades of grass, avoiding puddles, and spotting birds overhead, students made connections between the story and real-life science concepts. The activity was also supported by science curriculum, helping students explore how animals without backbones are classified and identified.
What made the experience even more meaningful was the involvement of Early Childhood Education students from Bainbridge High School. As part of their practicum, high school students helped set up headsets and guided younger learners through the activity, gaining real-world experience in early childhood instruction while supporting technology use in the classroom.

This is just one example of how Decatur County Schools are using technology to make learning more interactive and hands-on for students of all ages. From VR and robotics to coding and zSpaces, we are committed to preparing students for a future where innovation and problem-solving go hand in hand. That’s the Bearcat Way.
