🐝✨ Decatur County School District Spelling Bee ✨🐝

On Wednesday, January 15th, the Board Office was BUZZING with excitement for the annual Decatur County School District Spelling Bee!

Eight talented participants from across the district came to participate: Josiah Avril, Jace Heard, Corbin Keaton, Mia Rosario, Amiyah Scott, Aubrey Smith, Laycee Smith and Aydan Thompson.

The program began with some words of inspiration from GAE Region 9 Spelling Bee Consultant and Student Services Program Director, Mrs. Jeanette Grimsley. This was followed by a warm welcome from Mrs. Calvine Rollins, who also introduced the judges: Linda Hitchcock, Dr. Vivian Burke, and Christy Ward.

Mrs. Patricia Harrison reviewed the rules, ensuring everyone was ready for the competition.

Dr. Deirdre Daughtry, a retired literacy coach, led the spelling rounds and after a competitive event, the winners were announced:

1st Place: Laycee Smith

2nd Place: Josiah Avril

3rd Place: Mia Rosario

4th Place: Aydan Thompson

School superintendent, Dr. Boyd English and Mrs. Rollins presented the awards to the winners, recognizing their hard work and dedication. The event concluded with closing remarks from Mrs. Harrison, leaving everyone inspired and proud of the students’ achievements.
